# PlotLost Windows Control — Linux User Manual

For Debian/Ubuntu desktops, using either the x64 or ARM64 package. Both versions have the same controls and functions.

## Install

Check your computer’s architecture:

```sh
dpkg --print-architecture
```

From the folder containing the downloaded package, run **one** command matching that result:

**amd64 (x64):**

```sh
sudo apt install ./PlotLost-Windows-Control-1.0.0-amd64.deb
```

**arm64 (ARM64):**

```sh
sudo apt install ./PlotLost-Windows-Control-1.0.0-arm64.deb
```

Installation installs the required dependencies. Open **PlotLost Windows Control** from the applications menu. Use a graphical desktop session with an unlocked password keyring.

## Prepare a Windows PC

Use an administrator account on the target Windows 10/11 PC. Run the included `Setup-WindowsTarget.ps1` once in PowerShell **as Administrator**:

```powershell
.\Setup-WindowsTarget.ps1
```

The PC must be reachable from your Linux computer. The setup script is installed at `/usr/share/doc/plotlost-windows-control/Setup-WindowsTarget.ps1`; copy it to the Windows PC before running it. To reverse the script’s configuration changes, run it with `-Restore`.

## Save a user and system

1. Click **User** and create a named credential with the Windows username and password. Choose to save the password in the OS credential store if wanted.
2. Click **Add**. Enter a system name and hostname or IP address, then select the saved credential.
3. For a PC without a domain, leave the credential domain blank. Use the Windows computer name in **Computer / domain override** if needed.

A saved credential can be used by several systems. **Edit** changes the selected system; **Delete** removes it.

## Connect and control

Select a system and click **Connect**. Its controls open in a separate window. Use **Refresh** to update users and processes.

- **Reboot / Shutdown:** restart or turn off the PC, including when nobody is signed in. An administrative message is sent automatically.
- **Log Off:** log off all users.
- **User actions:** select a user, choose an action, then click **Perform Action**. Messages need message text; process termination needs a selected process.
- **Disconnect User:** disconnect the selected Windows session, leaving its applications running.

Set **Delay** from **0–60 seconds**; 0 is immediate. **Cancel** stops an app-scheduled reboot, shutdown, or logoff only while more than 5 seconds remain. Keep the app open during the countdown. Force-close can discard unsaved work.

**Disconnect** closes the app’s connection to the PC; it does not log off its users. Reconnect after a reboot.

## Multiple systems and transfer

**Multi** applies an action to the systems you select and shows each result.

**Export** saves configured systems; **Import** adds systems from an exported file. Credentials are not transferred—assign a saved user on the receiving computer.

## Update or remove

Quit the app, then install the newer package with `sudo apt install ./<package-filename>.deb`.

To remove the app:

```sh
sudo apt remove plotlost-windows-control
```

## Help

Open **Log** for connection details and action results. If connection fails, check that the PC is online, the network/firewall permits access, and the account has administrator permissions. If saving a password fails, unlock your desktop keyring. On KDE, use a wallet supporting Secret Service or enable GNOME Keyring.

To check installed dependencies:

```sh
plotlost-windows-control --self-test
```
