CallSeeker

Use the RSGB CALLSEEKER PLUS Data on macOS

A native macOS replacement for the callsign lookup, magazine search, reference viewing, address printing and Morse tools supplied for Windows—bringing those workflows together in one app.

Your radio references, together

Find and explore

  • Callsign, name, address and QTH searches, with dictionary-assisted word searches.
  • Magazine index browsing and searches across historical article references.
  • Yearbook PDFs, repeater and beacon lists, awards, reference documents and tables.
  • Combined searches, bookmarks and recent searches.

Use the information

  • Address printing for labels, envelopes and custom sizes.
  • Morse audio playback with speed and tone controls.
  • Maps using source locators or approximate location information.
  • A choice of interface languages and keyboard navigation.
  • A persistent Online data / Local data indicator.

No Windows installation or virtual machine is needed. The app reads compatible existing data files without changing them.

Validated against the 2027 file format. Other editions need compatibility checks. This is a replacement for the listed workflows, not a claim that every bundled Windows executable or external online service has an identical Mac implementation. Maps use internet services, and magazine indexes contain references rather than the full articles.

Start with your own RSGB USB data

  1. Install CallSeeker in Applications.
  2. Copy data and Extras from your own compatible USB stick into one folder. Keep their names and contents intact.
  3. Open the app’s Settings, choose that parent folder under Data folder, and let it read the indexes.
  4. Check that the sidebar says Local data, then search or browse.

This is the drop-in local workflow: no conversion and no MariaDB server are required. Original records and documents are read-only.

Optional: create your own private database

Prefer a server-backed copy you can reach from your Mac? The DMG includes a separate Database Setup kit. It contains tools, not records or credentials.

  1. Export your files on your Mac. Run Export My Data.command from the copied kit, choose your own data folder, and select a new destination. The export contains your licensed records and documents; keep it private.
  2. Prepare MariaDB on your own server. The included guide covers Debian 13, Python and a dedicated service account.
  3. Import and create access. Run the supplied setup script. It builds a fresh MariaDB database, verifies counts and document hashes, and creates a SELECT-only API account and private app key.
  4. Run the HTTPS API. Put the included service behind a reverse proxy with a valid certificate. MariaDB remains local to the server; only authenticated HTTPS requests reach the API.
  5. Connect the app. In Data source settings, enter your HTTPS API URL and app key, then select Save Key & Connect. The sidebar identifies the online server. The key is stored in macOS Keychain. If macOS asks permission for CallSeeker to access your saved server key, enter your Mac login password and choose Always Allow to remember permission. Choosing Allow permits access temporarily, so the prompt may return when you reopen the app. This applies to online mode; local data access does not use a server key.

Database Setup preview. The kit’s README gives the commands, systemd service and reverse-proxy example. A failed connection does not silently switch datasets. You can return to local data in Settings.

Use and hosting must follow the terms supplied with your data. Owning the app does not grant rights to redistribute records or publications. PlotLost’s private database is not offered as a public service. The optional database kit is a setup preview: its API checks pass, but a complete installation on a fresh server has not yet been validated.
